Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Mechanic Driver for the Facilities department.  This is a full-time position. 

Driving duties require that the candidate have a valid Commercial Driving License class A or class B with a passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.  Driver must be physically fit to maintain a Department of Transportation medical card/clearance and is subject to Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Regulations.  Driving portion of position, when necessary, will entail shuttling the campus community via trolley, bus or van to designated locations.

Mechanic dutes include, but not limited to, preventative maintenance on golf carts, ground's equipment, heavy equipment and fleet vehicles.  Troubleshooting mechanical issues on vehicles/equipment and making repairs.  The position will require the ability to operate all heavy equipment and vehicles on campus.

This is a 12 month full-time position working 40 hours a week. Working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM with occassional overtime.

Position is essential and will need to report for hurricane preparedness and clean up. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mechanic-Maintain fleet vehicles and equipment, perform preventative maintenance, road test vehicles, troubleshoot vehicle problems and perform emergency repairs "on the road". Perform necessary repairs on mobile equipment to include lawn care equipment, portable generators and heavy equipment.
  • Mechanic-Operate any vehicle in the fleet, including heavy equipment, golf carts and trailers hitched to equipment. Driver-Operate shutttle buses/trolleys/passenger vans ensuring the safety of passengers and others in the vicinity of vehicles.
  • Mechanic-Maintain a safe and clean working environment, maintain records of repairs, dispatch vehicles to appropriate departments, interface with supervisors and attend meetings when necessary.
  • Mechanic-Maintain records of repairs via electronic tracking system and/or hard copy for files.
  • Mechanic-Contact vendors for parts, repairs and servicing of vehicles.
  • Mechanic-Monitoring fuel levels in bulk tanks and ordering fuel, monthly tank inspections, refuel diesel generators and maintaining portable generators.
  • Carry 2-way radios and/or cell phone. May be on-call for emergencies.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education / skills required:

  • Associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
  • For the driving portion of this position a minimum of 2 years of driving experience with passenger buses.  
  • Tehnical training in Automotives. 
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by Florida Tech.
  • Obtain the 10 hour OSHA Course certification.
  • 2-4 Years Post-High School training at an accredited Automotive Technology School. 
  • State of Florida Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions.
