Assistant Director of Orientation and Civic Engagement

Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for an Assistant Director of Orientation and Civic Engagement for the Student Life department. This position is full-time.

Helps incoming students transition into the university system. Plans, implements, assists, and assesses all orientation programming for Melbourne campus, including selection/appointment of orientation leaders, coordination of new student programming throughout orientation, and other related programs.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, plan, implement, assist, and assess all orientation programming (Fall, Spring, Summer) for new students and families, including international students, graduate students, and transfer students.
  • Create and implement service programs and opportunities for students, faculty, and staff year-round.
  • Recruit, select, appoint, train, direct, oversee and assess a large, diverse part-time student orientation staff, both paid and volunteer, to support New Student Orientation.
  • Maintain and manage civic engagement tracking system: GivePulse.
  • Assist with developing and conducting orientation assessments, monitoring orientation budget, social media accounts, and orientation website.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining community partnerships around Brevard County, including providing civic engagement support to over 150 student organizations.
  • Assist in all areas of the Student Involvement experience.

Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in higher education, student personnel or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 2-5 years of relevant work experience required
