Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Security and Compliance Officer for the Security department.  This is a full-time position.

This position conducts all inspections and ensures all safety equipment, supplies and related campus items are kept in good working order. Inspects all Fire Safety equipment in all campus buildings and properties. Also enforces safety and security practices to all employees, students, visitors, and the University’s facilities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a member of the Florida Tech Safety Committee and Departmental representative at safety meetings. 
  • Conducts inspections of fire extinguishers, AED units, first aid supplies and campus lighting reports; completes and/or follows-up on work orders to ensure all safety equipment remains in good working order and is completed satisfactorily.
  • Conducts all emergency management systems testing.
  • Enforces University security policies to students, employees, outside vendors and visitors.
  • Monitors safety equipment such as surveillance cameras and fire alarms.
  • Generates and maintains accurate documentation including incident reports and sees they are communicated as required.
  • Inspects, secures and monitors all University facilities to detect fire, property damage or other irregularities.
  • Related projects and initiatives.

 

Education / skills required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; however, an associate degree or completion of police or fire academy training may be substituted for two years of experience
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in area of expertise.
  • Certifications in Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS-100 for Schools), Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS for Higher Education), Multi-hazard Emergency Planning for Schools (IS-00362.a), Active Shooter (IS-00907), Basic Workplace Security Awareness (IS-00906), Workplace Violence Awareness (IS-00106.13)
  • Two years’ experience using fire alarms and surveillance equipment
  • State of Florida D and G License.  Must have a valid Florida driver's license and maintain good driving record as determined by Florida Tech guidelines.
  • One-year experience in safeguarding life and property.
  • Four years of experience in security, Military or related field monitoring property and providing safety to others
  • Able to do physical labor which may involve heavy weights, considered manageable and safe, and must be able to transport equipment including fire extinguishers and first aid equipment which may weigh 40 pounds
  • Successfully complete a Florida Tech Security Officer training program within 90 days to become certified in First Aid, CPR and AED Valid Florida Driver’s License in good standing
