Instructional Technologist

The Instructional Technologist utilizes multimedia instructional tools to provide training for faculty and content specialists to develop and revise teaching with technology for Online, hybrid and face-to-face courses. Provides information and recommendations about the use of instructional technology in courses of all modalities. Manages media delivery systems for instructional use by faculty.  Develops appropriate strategies for implementing instructional technology across a broad range of academic programs and initiatives utilizing accepted instructional theories and principles; collaborates with clients and information technology and instructional design staff to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching, including technology tool assessment, pedagogy, deployment methodologies, Online and classroom integration strategies. Ensures instructional delivery equipment and classroom configuration requirements meet institutional teaching needs.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducts one-on-one and group training sessions on the use of instructional delivery tools
  • Prepares training content on the use of instructional technology, offered either on-demand or live
  • Assists instructors in the design, layout, and delivery of their course materials in a multimedia environment
  • Conducts research and evaluates effectiveness of new and emerging educational technologies
  • Provides digital media software training and services for faculty members
  • Manages the University’s media delivery system (e.g., Panopto, Adobe Connect and iTunesU)
  • Informs instructors of emerging teaching technologies and related tools
  • Assists in determining instructional delivery equipment and classroom configuration requirements based on feedback from training of instructors

Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge obtained through a combination of education, training and experience)
  • Teaching with technology degree preferred
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
  • Experience in diverse use of technology for teaching Online, and face-to-face
  • Experience with a learning management system (LMS)
  • Working knowledge of classroom teaching technologies
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years years of teaching experience
  • Knowledge of multicultural, ADA, and copyright issues
  • Experience with syllabus/course design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
