Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Manager of Security and Exhibitions for Foosaner Art Museum. This is a full-time position.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Flexible


Responsibility: The basic responsibility of the Manager of Security and Exhibitions is to maintain the security of the facility, particularly the main galleries and artworks on display and in collection storage. He/She also executes the installation and disassembly and shipping of all art objects.

Supervision: The Manager of Security and Exhibitions shall supervise and train staff (including temporary hires, facilities and custodial university employees) or volunteers who may assist with security, art handling and installation.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Oversee safety protocol and procedure for all museum objects and visitors.
  • Monitors the Foosaner galleries during visiting hours.
  • Acts as liaison between Museum staff and University Security and Facilities departments.
  • Assists in packing, unpacking, shipping; supervise loading and unloading of art shipments; pick up or deliver art when necessary.
  • Organize and maintain orderly inventory and condition reporting of loaned collections for temporary exhibitions.
  • With approval from the Executive Director, seek appraisals or conservators when necessary.
  • Monitor the daily log on humidity and temperature levels in galleries and storage.
  • Maintain proper light levels in galleries and storage.
  • Maintain installation and gallery furniture. Maintain proper housekeeping standards for collections and exhibition spaces.
  • Train and supervise Security and Facilities personnel as needed regarding art safety. Supervise Facilities personnel as needed during maintenance in galleries and art storage areas.
  • Assists in training of volunteers and staff in the proper handling of works of art.
  • Assists with care for outdoor collection installation and any collection located off museum premises.
  • Under advisement of Executive Director, execute exhibition installations. This includes hanging art, preparing walls, and pedestals, and maintaining ample supplies and proper hardware to install the works.
  • Maintains proper light levels in galleries.
  • Use a Gallery Condition Checklist and clean and straighten art when necessary.
  • Keep a condition report notebook on file. Make recommendations on preservation and conservation of work as needed with Executive Director.


Other Duties:

  • Track all museum-related incidents and security reports.
  • Communicate with staff regarding any security related concerns and issues an make improvements as needed.
  • Assist the Executive Director with development of departmental budget, public and private support and research on providing support for collections.
  • Maintain an active affiliation with other organizations and institutions which are involved in collections maintenance and care activities and studies.
  • Assist with annual inventory of the permanent collection.
  • Responsible for executing disaster planning for all objects of art in the museum and in off-site storage.
  • Assists with photo documentation and digital recording of all exhibitions in Past Perfect.
  • Attend all special programming as it pertains to exhibits
  • Assist with Special Events as needed.
  • Responds to alarms at Museum and Education Center.
  • Set up and take down tables and chairs for meetings and events in the galleries.
  • Assist other staff members and/or volunteers as needed.
