Fleet Mechanic/Driver

Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Fleet Mechanic/Driver for the Facilities department.  This is a full-time position. 

Mechanic duties include, but not limited to, preventative maintenance on golf carts, grounds equipment, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles.
Troubleshooting mechanical issues on vehicles/equipment and making repairs. This position will require operating all vehicles on campus.

Driving duties require that the candidate have a valid Commercial Driving License class A or B with a Passenger endorsement and no air
brake restriction. Driver must be physically fit to maintain a Department of Transportation medical card/clearance and is subject to Federal
Drug & Alcohol Testing Regulations. Driving portion of position, when necessary, will entail shuttling the campus community via trolley, bus or van to designated locations.

Working hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with occasional overtime.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain fleet vehicles and equipment, perform preventative maintenance, road test vehicles, troubleshoot vehicle problems, and
    perform emergency repairs β€œon the road.” Perform necessary repairs on mobile equipment to include lawn care equipment,
    portable generators and heavy equipment.
  • Operate any vehicle in the fleet, including heavy equipment, golf carts and trailers hitched to equipment, operate
    shuttle buses/trolleys/passenger vans when and if necessary. As a driver of a trolley/bus/passenger van, ensure
    safety of passengers and others in vicinity of vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, maintain records of repairs, dispatch vehicles to appropriate departments,
    interface with supervisor and attend meetings.
  • Maintain records of repairs via electronic tracking system and/or hard copy in file.
  • Contact vendors for parts, repairs and servicing of vehicles.
  • Monitoring fuel levels in bulk tanks, monthly tank inspections, refueling diesel generators, maintaining portable generators and
    ordering fuel.
  • Carry University issued radio and/or cell phone. May be on-call for emergencies.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education / skills required:

  • Associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
