Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for an Athletic Director.  This is a full-time position.

Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech)—a nationally-ranked STEM university—invites applications and nominations for the position of Athletic Director. Florida Tech seeks an individual with the intellectual and personal qualities to be an innovative leader with strong interpersonal communication skills.  The Athletic Director will report to the position of President held by T. Dwayne McCay, Ph.D.

The Position:
The Athletic Director will provide oversight for all aspects of the athletic programs sponsored by the University, including: hiring coaches, scheduling, budget preparation, compliance and facility management.  The Athletic Director has oversight of the strategic plan for athletics, providing guidance and direction for the University’s sports program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Hiring of coaches and staff, ordering equipment for teams promoting events, matches and meets. 
  • Provide oversight of all sports personnel.
  • The AD must be skilled in budgeting and allocating funds and facilitating operations, as this position has oversight and responsibility to manage the athletic budgets. 
  • Partner with University Advancement to raise funds to support approved plans for athletic facilities, scholarships, operations and personnel.  Establish fundraising goals with detailed plans on how these goals will be achieved.
  • Represent Florida Tech Athletics at all affiliated conference meetings (IRA, SSC, GS and Peach Belt Conference), and serves on committees within these conferences to strengthen the University’s presence as a member in good standing.  The AD also serves in similar ways within the NCAA to promote and advance the guiding principles important for conducting a successful intercollegiate athletics program. 
  • Coordinate with coaches about scheduling of games and practices.  Collaborate with conferences and leagues about scheduling issues.  Speak with league officials about subjects such as postseason play. 
  • Collaborate with coaching staff on scheduling game days and practices throughout the sports season, ensuring no schedule conflicts between different teams for use of shared equipment. 
  • Develops a culture within the Athletics Department that represents the values and attitudes that reflect the best qualities of an outstanding intercollegiate athletics program with high academic standards.   

Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or related field required. Master’s degree in Sports Management, Organizational Leadership or Education Administration preferred. 
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in area of expertise.
