Florida Tech is currently searching for a Groundskeeper II for Facilities Operations.  This is a full-time position.

The position of Groundskeeper is a full-time, semi-skilled position under the administrative direction of the University Horticulturist/Manager of Grounds and daily direction of the Grounds Supervisor. The employee will perform work required for the care, maintenance and development of the lawns, landscape beds, street and greenspace trees, drainage, hardscapes (parking lots/sidewalks/fencing, etc.) and general grounds of university-owned property. The employee will perform other related work as required, some of which will be mechanical and some as designated Essential Personnel for weather emergency preparations and recovery. Working hours are Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm with occasional overtime, after hours and weekends may be required.

 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Cuts grass with power equipment or hand tools (weed eater/edger, etc.). Essential, basic maintenance of landscape/lawn equipment.
  • Daily physical efforts, including loading/unloading dirt, gravel, sand, mulch, and debris. Picks up trash on university-owned property, including maintenance buildings, parking lots/garages and other related areas; details specific areas for occasional special events.
  • Proper (industry standard) installation and maintenance of trees and landscape ornamentals (with an ability to read a landscape plan). This includes grading, mulching, and follow-up care of all installed projects.
  • Holds (or able to obtain within 6 months) FDACS Commercial Landscape Maintenance spray applicator license for use in weed and pest control throughout university property.
  • Safely operates University-owned vehicles of various descriptions, including a pick up truck, dump truck, high reach/boom lift, Gator, spray rig or golf cart for the purpose of performing the essential functions of the position.
  • Responsible for weekly maintenance visits for specifically assigned zone of campus, identifying problems and preparing a weekly report, turned in to Horticulturist/Grounds Manager.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional Duties as assigned.

 

Education / skills required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 10 hour OSHA certification is preferred.
  • Licensure in pesticide and herbicide application, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • State of Florida driver's license
  • FNGLA  Horticulturist level or above, GI-BMP certification - is preferred
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
