Locksmith II

Florida Tech is currently searching for a Locksmith II for Facilities Operations.  This is a full-time position. 

Provide general and specific maintenance and carpenter functions for all university facilities.  Work to include, but not limited to, carpentry work, door hardware installation and maintenance, door repair and adjustment, lock-set and core installations and repairs, key-cutting, access control and other duties as assigned. Minor carpentry functions. Assist with renovations/remodeling projects to campus facilities. Working hours Monday - Friday 8:00pm - 4:30pm, with occasional overtime.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Install new locks (mechanical and electronic) and door hardware as needed. This would include new construction, remodel projects, breakage, etc.
  • Repair locks. Disassemble locks and replace worn tumblers, springs, batteries and other parts, as needed.
  • Repair and adjust door-mounted closers, hinges, ADA operators, exit devices, panic hardware, and other finish hardware.
  • Rekey locks for security purposes, respond to lost key incidents, change safe combinations.
  • Make, verify operation, and distribute keys for Academic areas and Residential halls.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date record of all keys and locks, maintain database of all keys issued.
  • Design, install, and maintain Master-Key systems, including new construction and remodel projects.
  • Produce and replace/repair locks, keys and combinations for office equipment, including but not limited to desks, file cabinets, hazardous materials storage, HIPPA-regulated containers, gates, key switches, and any other capital equipment.
  • Install and maintain electronic access control systems (industrial and commercial security hardware). Routine programming of offline and non-networked electronic locks.
  • Participate in the Facilities Operations On-Call program. Required to carry cell phone 24/7 for on-call duty to respond to after hour lock or security related issues.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional Duties as assigned

Education / skills required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 10 hour OSHA certification is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one within six months of employment and maintain good driving record as determined by Florida Tech guidelines.
  • ALOA Member Preferred
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience required in area of expertise
