Senior Lead Custodian

The Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Senior Lead Custodian for the Rathskeller.  This is a full-time position.

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and the general guidance from Management staff, this person must provide Dining Service units with clean and safe kitchens, dining rooms, entrance ways and restrooms. This position supervises a staff of 3 to 5 full time custodians, with part time assistance from 5 to 7 college roll staff. Requires good leadership skills, attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to work independently.

Position is responsible for maintaining floors, walls, windows (building) cleanliness inside and outside the dining facilities assigned. Performs routine custodian duties such as; sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing walls and baseboards, moving equipment regularly to facilitate cleaning behind and underneath,  vacuuming carpets, detail cleaning of restrooms, washing windows and cleaning entrance ways, keeps entrance ways and dumpster areas free of debris, periodic light cleaning of fleet vehicles, as needed.  Must properly utilized University approved cleaning soaps and equipment. Performing these duties while being mindful of sanitation and work place safety is the priority.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • This position must provide leadership to the full time staff along with student staff. This will require patience, coaching skills and effective communication to assist in building teamwork. Works "hands on" with the team to complete daily cleaning tasks related to Panther Dining Hall, Sub Cafe and Center Court.
  • Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical and gas appliance/equipment use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Notifies managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Oversees the maintenance and repair of custodian cleaning equipment - mops, brooms floor scrubber, wet and dry vacuums
  • Train and ensure all staff adhere to standardized procedures and sanitary practices as to eliminate potential operating hazards and food borne illnesses.  Reasonable and prudent care must be exercised at all times. 
  • Assist in completing and maintaining monthly schedules for the custodian team
  • Assist in completing daily duty list, with time line
  • Assist in preparing and administering yearly staff evaluations
  • Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties

Education/Skills required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of relevant work experience required
