Coordinator of Student Life, Civic Engagement Focus

Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Coordinator of Student Life, Civic Engagement Focus for the Student Life department. This position is full-time.

The Coordinator of Student Life is part of the leadership team responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of student activity and Civic Engagement programs at Florida Tech. The Coordinator is responsible for helping oversee the day-to-day operations of the Civic Engagement Inititative which entails coordinating academic service-learning, campus-community partnerships and activities, hours/dollars raised imput process and other.  The Coordinator will share responsibility with other professional staff members in the Office of Student Life in coordinating Leadership Development, Homecoming, Student Leader Award Ceremony, and other theme weeks and educational programming.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Help maintain and manage the Civic Engagement Tracking System
  • Create and implement faculty development program that provides training to faculty interested in service-learning
  • Helps to recognize faculty, staff and students by organizing the yearly recognition program
  • Assists with organizing a volunteer fair twice a year to promote community involvement
  • Helps create and maintain partnerships with approximately 200 non-profit agencies
  • Works closely to coordinate and integrate all activities within campus community
  • Helps plan, prepare and create all Alternative Break Programs
  • Assist in assessing all areas of the Student Involvement experience 
  • Assists and makes recommendations to develop functional policies, procedures and service standards to Student Activities
  • Makes recommendations on budgetary items for the Student Center and Clubs/organizations
  • Supervising student workers

Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree in higher education, student personnel or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 0–2 years of relevant work experience required
  • Experience in student leadership development and student activities in higher education setting
  • Solid understanding of areas within the Civic Engagement umbrella including practices and implementation for student/community connections.
  • Strong commitment and previous success working within multicultural and diverse communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Innovative thinker with a vision for providing high quality services to students
  • Ability to supervise and manage budgets
  • Computer skills which include the ability to use social media
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours, including evening and weekends
