Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for an Assistant Director of Student Projects for the College of Engineering and Science. This is a full-time position.

This position is to work with the Director of Student Projects to administer the Florida Institute of
Technology student design projects and manage the operations of the Harris Student Design Center.
This position will involve working with students, faculty, and administrative staff at to further the
hands on education of students at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work in partnership with Director of Student Projects and Student Project Faculty to organize and manage student projects.
  • Manage student project budgets and procurement of supplies. Manage and reconcile purchasing card documents and the budgets for student projects.
  • Support students with management, planning, and execution of their design projects
  • Supervise the hands-on training of students concerning assembly techniques and the proper use/safety of hand tools and assembly techniques
  • Work in partnership with various campus departments such as Facilities, Development, Business and Retail Operations, etc. to plan and execute activities for annual Northrop Grumman Engineering & Science Student Design Showcase.
  • Provide safety and oversight of project assembly operations, tooling, and hardware. Assist students with the manufacture, assembly, and testing of their projects
  • Assist in identifying and procuring funding sources and/or and equipment to increase the design and manufacturing capabilities of the Harris Student Design Center.
  • Organize/support student team travel and assist teams at project-related competitions
  • Support university objectives; student tours, guest visits and events in the Harris Student Design Center (HSDC)
  • Support Student Project Director in the maintenance of key project records for Academic Accreditation and Finance requirements
  • Supervise and train student employees in the HSDC
  • Coordinate resources and procurement for College of Engineering and Science facilities such as Machine Shop, Makerspace, Harris Student Design Center, etc.

Education/Skills required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering field is required.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
  • Computer Skills - Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power-point, Project, Visio, Outlook)(Required)
  • CAD Software (Preferred)
  • Canvas LMS (Preferred)
  • Organizational Skills - Project Management (Required); Procurement (Required); Event Management (Preferred)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, team-oriented, working relationship
  • Ability to travel and work evening/weekend hours
