Assistant Professor, Environmental Engineering

Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) is in search of an Assistant Professor, Environmental Engineering Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering.

The Civil Engineering program at the Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) invites applications for a tenure or teaching track faculty position in the area of Environmental Engineering.  The position is planned to commence in August 2019 and is intended primarily at the Assistant Professor level. However, exceptional candidates with established scholarly records may be considered for higher-level appointments. While preference will be given to those applying for the tenure track position, candidates with outstanding teaching credentials and versatility in teaching various courses can also apply for the teaching track. The difference between the two tracks would be the relative emphasis on teaching and research.



Florida Tech ( is a private, engineering-focused university ranked as a Tier 1 National University by U.S. News and World Report, and one of the top 20 small universities in the world by Times Higher Education. The university is located in Melbourne, Florida, Brevard County, which is one of the top counties in the U.S. for high-tech employment and is in close proximity to the NASA/Kennedy Space Center.  The campus is also within six kilometers of the Indian River lagoon, one of the most biodiverse estuaries in the northern hemisphere and home to more than 4,300 species of plants and animals. The Civil Engineering and Construction Management Programs have nine faculty members who work closely. The two programs have approximately 150 undergraduate students, and 35 graduate (MS and PhD) students.



Applicants conducting research in all areas of environmental engineering will be considered. Qualified applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree in engineering and a Ph. D. in Environmental or Civil Engineering or a closely related field; excellent potential for teaching and research; and dedication to research, education, service, and professional activities.  Duties of a successful candidate include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, developing a strong externally-funded research program, publishing scholarly work, and service.
