Driver (Part-time, 12-month)

Florida Institute of Technology is currently searching for a Driver for the Facilities department. This is a part-time, 12-month position. 

Driver/Operator for the university transportation system to include maintenance, fueling, daily cleaning
of vehicles, ensuring adherence to route schedules, and occasional driving during other hours as
requested. This position is part-time, 12-month, working up to 29 hours per week of varying shifts, as
necessary, to ensure effective operation of the 5:00 AM-12:30 AM Monday through Friday and
5:00AM-8:30PM Saturday/Sunday schedules, with occasional use outside those hours. Minimum 2-5
years experience driving passenger buses 30 or more capacity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operates passenger buses, vans and trolleys. Ensure safety of passengers while being transported as well as pedestrians in the
    vicinity of the vehicle. Carry 2-way radios and/or have on vehicle powered up and running cell phone for
  • Ensure vehicles are clean and fueled on a daily basis.
  • Daily safety inspections of vehicles and ridership record keeping.
  • Assist with minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with annual refinishing and repairs of woodwork.
  • Use of PA for announcements, instructions, and other tour guide related announcements.
  • Hurricane preparedness and cleanup.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Education/Skills required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Class B or Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsement with no air brake
  • Must be able to pass and maintain DOT Physical/medical clearance/Drug screening
  • Must maintain clean driving records as defined by Florida Tech.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience required in area of expertise
